FBI headquarters, "the Emerald City" for Houston
(Office : Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown) 11/10/2009

(Houston) - The eight-story FBI Houston Field Office building at 1 Justice Park is green, and not just because it is the one and only occupant on the block on Justice Park off 43rd St.

The eight-year, $81 million project, with its 1,529 pieces of green glass that nearly cover the 305,438-sf building’s exterior, has been referred to as “the Emerald City” or “the green monster,” FBI Director Robert E. Mueller said.

The environmentally friendly building — certified as such by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System — is a welcome sight for the agents and support personnel who now have a central place to collect, analyze an disseminate information in partnership with international, state and local law enforcement agencies.

Houston’s FBI has not had a new FBI buildng since 1961 when the agency’s previous headquarters, the Bob Casey Building, was built on East T.C. Jester.
